Who are the Best Candidates For Liposuction?

Highly regarded by our patients as the #1 liposuction practice in Toronto, we’ve had the joy of performing liposuction on thousands of patients. Below, we’ve included some of the best candidates:

  • The best candidates for a liposuction procedure are healthy individuals within a normal weight range who have firm, elastic skin and localized pockets of excess fat.
  • Patients should be in good physical and emotional health before planning any surgical procedure and have realistic expectations of the results that can be achieved.
  • Although age doesn’t need to be a negative factor when considering liposuction, older patients tend to have diminished skin elasticity which can affect the final outcomes. Liposuction is also riskier for individuals who have comorbidities such as diabetes, heart and lung disease, or poor blood circulation.

Common Target Areas For Liposuction

It is important to understand that liposuction is not a substitute for a healthy diet and regular exercise, rather it is a cosmetic, body contouring solution for the removal of fat cells that are resistant to these traditional weight loss methods.

Our female Toronto liposuction patients commonly request the procedure to be performed in the following areas:

  • Under their chin
  • On their hips
  • Thighs
  • Abdomen
  • Underarms

*In contrast, our male patients typically want to reduce fat around their midsection, or the submental, (under the chin) area. Liposuction can also be used during male breast reduction as an effective treatment for those with a medical condition known as gynecomastia.

Preparing for Your Liposuction Procedure

As you plan for your liposuction procedure in Toronto, we will provide you with helpful instructions about preparing for it. We offer guidelines on nutrition, drinking, smoking, certain medications, and vitamin supplements. If you develop an infection, particularly a skin infection, be sure to let your plastic surgeon know because your procedure may need to be postponed.

It is also advised that you make arrangements for a comfortable and stress-free recovery. Make sure that you have a family member or friend who can drive you to and from our clinic, as well as provide support with daily chores when you are home. You will be able to move around as you normally do, however, strenuous activity and exercise should be avoided for at least a few weeks or as long as your surgeon advises you.

Which Anesthesia is Used for Liposuction?

There are several types of anesthesia, which may be used for your Toronto liposuction procedure. Together, we will discuss which anesthesia is optimal to ensure a safe and effective level of comfort for your procedure.

For patients who wish to target only a minor amount of excess fat, liposuction can be performed with local anesthesia. When we administer local anesthesia to our patients, we also offer intravenous sedation to help maintain relaxation throughout the process. While patients who are receiving treatment for a greater surface area prefer general anesthesia.

What are the Benefits of Liposuction?

There are great benefits to a Toronto liposuction. Not only will you lose weight, but you’ll also gain self-confidence and be properly set up for a more healthy lifestyle. Say goodbye to unwanted, stubborn fat that no matter how hard you worked, wouldn’t disappear.

What are the Associated Risks and Complications of Liposuction?

In general, Today’s liposuction procedures carried out by experienced, Royal College certified plastic surgeons are considered to be safe and effective. However, the risk of complications is associated with any surgical procedure. Your plastic surgeon will discuss with you whether any health concerns may increase with the number of treatment areas you choose. Through detailed assessment, careful technique, and postoperative instructions we aim to minimize risks such as delayed healing, the formation of blood or fat clots, excessive fluid loss, seroma, infection, or unfavorable drug reactions.

I’m very happy and excited about my results

5 Star Rating

I wanted to share my amazing experience with Dr. Golger, Josie, and the rest of his team. From the second I met with Dr. Golger, at my initial appointment, I felt very comfortable and confident with my decision to have cosmetic surgery. I was very excited but nervous about my procedure and both Dr. Golger and Josie kept me at ease. The same night of my operation Dr. Golger called me to see how I was doing. Josie was available any time of day to answer any questions I had. the Saturday night after my surgery I texted Josie with an inquiry and she responded in seconds. Dr. Golger booked continuous follow-up appointments to see my progress and assured me everything was healing properly. I’m very happy and excited about my results and would refer my friends and family to Dr. Golger. Thank you again for everything you have done for me.

Avenue Plastic Surgery Liposuction Techniques

Costs, surgery, and recovery process

How Much Does Liposuction Cost in Toronto?

Liposuction is a highly personalized procedure. The cost of your Toronto liposuction will vary based on the type of liposuction performed along with other factors. The average cost of liposuction at Avenue Plastic Surgery is around $5,000+. Financing options are available that can help make the payment process more manageable for our patients.

6 Types of Liposuction

The first step to getting this procedure is education. If you and your surgeon both agree that this is the best solution for your aesthetic needs, the next step will be deciding which type of liposuction will be best for you. While different practices take their own unique approach, it’s important to understand all of the possibilities.

  1. Tumescent Liposuction – This form of lipo has become the most popular over the years. It’s accomplished by making small incisions in the skin, followed by the use of a small cannula that is used to suction out fats and fluids from the target area. This is an optimal solution for lipo as it typically results in less blood loss and bruising.
  2. Super Wet Liposuction – During this procedure, your surgeon will require the injection of a volume of dilute local anesthesia. The Super-Wet approach is popular as it’s less painful and provides a speedy recovery.
  3. Ultrasound-Assisted (Vaser Liposuction) – Vaser Lipo is done by creating ultrasonic vibrations that turn fat cells into liquid.
  4. Power-Assisted Liposuction – Power Assisted lipo allows the surgeon to remove fat with a lot of control. The procedure is done by using a vibrating cannula.
  5. Laser-Assisted – As detailed in the name, this procedure uses laser technology to liquefy the fat cells.
  6. SAFE Lipo – This is an acronym for Separation, aspiration, and fat equalization. This technique is a variation of the power-assisted lipo.

What to Expect on the Day of Liposuction Surgery?

Liposuction is a procedure designed to target and remove localized fat. Liposuction is able to sculpt the body and help create a more flattering silhouette. Dr. Golger or Dr. Romy begin with injecting a saline (saltwater) solution to the treatment area along with a local anesthetic and agents to help reduce bruising. They then create a tiny incision used to insert a narrow cannula that will loosen the fat layer and vacuum it out. As they work on each treatment area, all incisions are made as inconspicuously as possible in creases or well-hidden areas. The duration of the procedure will depend on the amount of fat being eliminated, the treatment area size, the type of anesthesia, and the technique used. The standard technique used for liposuction improves its ease and enhances its outcome.

Breast Augmentation Procedure

Liposuction Recovery

Upon completion of your liposuction procedure, your plastic surgeon will place a few small sutures where needed and cover your incisions with protective tape. You may be advised to wear a specialized compression garment for a few weeks to control swelling and reduce space for fluid collection in the tissue. Additionally, you will be given prescription antibiotics and pain medication if needed.

Remember, do not expect to look or feel fantastic immediately after your procedure because you will have some post-procedural discomfort. Most people do not describe their liposuction recovery as painful, however, nerve sensations are common and may temporarily manifest as a sensation of skin burning, tingling, bruising, or numbness. These sensations are a normal and temporary part of the recovery process.

In most cases, after Toronto liposuction procedures, patients are able to return to light work a few days following surgery. Upon returning home, you will be advised to walk regularly because it helps reduce swelling and prevent complications. However, more strenuous exercises should be avoided for a few weeks, or until your surgeon advises you. By three months post-procedure, all bruising and the majority of your swelling will have subsided.

8 Steps to an Easy Liposuction Recovery

  1. Transportation – It’s vital that the following liposuction you have worked out a ride home or where you’ll be recovering.
  2. Prescriptions – Make sure to fill all prescriptions prior to surgery. This will make one less item you’ll have to think about while recovering.
  3. Scheduling – Our front office will help you schedule your follow-up liposuction appointments prior to surgery.
  4. Save Numbers – Make sure to save all phone numbers you’ll need. While this sounds like an easy step, you’ll want to make sure your recovery process is as simple as possible.
  5. Help! – Figure out who will be staying with you during your recovery. You’ll likely need a hand around the house.
  6. Preparation – Decide what you’ll tell others. The results will be amazing, and you’ll need to decide on what you want others to know.
  7. Meal Prep – Prior to surgery figure out your meal plan. Whether ordering or preparing food in bulk, it will make your recovery process much easier.
  8. Relax – Catch up on a good documentary or have an entertaining book on hand that will help pass the time during your liposuction recovery.

Seeing the New You with Liposuction

Quite soon after your liposuction procedure, you will notice a difference in the shape of your body. By four to six weeks after treatment, the final outcome becomes more evident as the swelling has significantly subsided. Finally, between three to six months, your body will have to resolve the last, residual swelling and show your beautiful results.
