Liposuction Target Areas

Common Target Areas For Liposuction

It is important to understand that liposuction is not a substitute for a healthy diet and regular exercise, rather it is a cosmetic, body contouring solution for removal of fat cells that are resistant to these traditional weight loss methods.

Our female Toronto liposuction patients commonly request the procedure to be performed under their chin, on their hips, thighs, abdomen and underarms. In contrast, our male patients typically want to reduce fat around their midsection, or the sub mental, (under chin) area. Liposuction can also be used during male breast reduction as effective treatment for those with the medical condition known as gynecomastia.

I’m very happy and excited about my results

5 Star Rating

I wanted to share my amazing experience with Dr. Golger, Josie and the rest of his team. From the second I met with Dr Golger, at my initial appointment, I felt very comfortable and confident with my decision to have cosmetic surgery. I was very excited but nervous about my procedure and both Dr Golger and Josie kept me at ease. The same night of my operation Dr Golger called me to see how I was doing. Josie was available any time of day to answer any questions I had. the Saturday night after my surgery I texted Josie with an inquiry and she responded in seconds. Dr Golger booked continuous follow up appointments to see my progress and assured me everything was healing properly. I’m very happy and excited about my results and would refer my friends and family to Dr Golger. Thank you again for everything you have done for me.

How Does Liposuction Work?

Procedure designed to target and remove localized fat

Liposuction is able to sculpt the body and help create a more flattering silhouette.

Dr. Golger or Dr. Romy begin with injecting a saline (saltwater) solution to the treatment area along with a local anaesthetic and agents to help reduce bruising. They then create a tiny incision used to insert a narrow cannula that will loosen the fat layer and vacuum it out. As they work on each treatment area, all incisions are made as inconspicuously as possible in creases or well-hidden areas. The duration of the procedure will depend on the amount of fat being eliminated, the treatment area size, the type of anesthesia and the technique used.

The standard technique used for liposuction improves its ease and enhances its outcome.

Fluid injection involves the injection of a medicated solution into fatty areas before it is removed. This solution is composed of salts, lidocaine (a local anesthetic) and epinephrine (contracts blood vessel). It serves multiple purposes by loosening the fat for easier removal, reduces blood loss by contracting blood vessels and provides anesthesia. This technique is great for helping to reduce the amount of bruising that can occur from a procedure.

What to expect after your liposuction procedure?

Upon completion of your liposuction procedure, your plastic surgeon will place a few small sutures where needed and cover your incisions with protective tape. You may be advised to wear a specialized compression garment for a few weeks to control swelling and reduce space for fluid collection in the tissue. Additionally, you will be given prescription antibiotics and pain medication if needed.

Remember: do not expect to look or feel fantastic immediately after your procedure because you will have some post-procedural discomfort. Most people do not describe their liposuction recovery as painful, however nerve sensations are common and may temporarily manifest as a sensation of skin burning, tingling, bruising or numbness. These sensations are a normal and temporary part of the recovery process.

In most cases, after Toronto liposuction procedures, patients are able to return to light work a few days following surgery. Upon returning home, you will be advised to walk regularly because it helps reduce swelling and prevent complications. However, more strenuous exercises should be avoided for a few weeks, or until your surgeon advises you. By three months post-procedure, all bruising and the majority of your swelling will have subsided.

What are the associated risks and complications for liposuction?

In general, Today’s liposuction procedures carried out by experienced, Royal College certified plastic surgeons are considered to be safe and effective. However, risk of complication is associated with any surgical procedure. Your plastic surgeon will discuss with you whether any health concerns may increase with the number of treatment areas you choose.
